DAINTREE / CAPE TRIBULATION, Australia...
Situated about 40 minutes north of Port
Douglas is the village of Daintree, Daintree
River and gateway to Cape Tribulation. The
area from Daintree River to Cape Tribulation
is a National Park with some areas also
World Heritage listed. This area spans
approx. 17,000 hectares with rainforest and
plants representing millions of years of
evolution.
The crossing over the Daintree River to Cape
Tribulation is by car ferry only. A unique
north Queensland experience in itself. The
river has several river boat operators to
showcase the diverse flora and fauna of the
region. A speciality of the area is bird
watching in the early hours or maybe
crocodile spotting in the heat of the day.
The road north of the river is now sealed
providing access to all vehicles both
private and tour. The road travels the
Alexandra Range with lookouts, rainforest
walks and secluded tropical beaches to
explore. The Daintree / Cape Tribulation
region is home to over 3,000 plant species
including trees , palms, tree ferns and
cycads. Even today unknown flora and fauna
are still being discovered.
For those wishing to stay longer then a day
there are a variety of accommodation places
on offer. From 5 star resorts, bed and
breakfast, backpackers, houses and motels.
Activities in the area extend to kayaking,
horse- riding, fruit tasting, 4wd safaris
and nocturnal tours. There is something for
everyone and well worth a days trip. |
