CAPE YORK, Australia...
One of the last frontiers in Australia, Cape
York spans 750 km from Cairns to the most
northern tip of Australia. The Coral Sea is
to the east, Torres Strait then New Guinea
to the north, and the Gulf of Carpentaria to
the west.
A unique wilderness area with limited access
by dirt road, air and sea. The road through
to the Cape is seasonally closed in the wet
season (December to April). Air flights are
scheduled or by charter to certain areas. If
travelling by air to meet Phantom at
Lockhart River or Bamaga, daily domestic
flights are available ex- Cairns. For
locations away from townships seaplanes or
helicopters can also be chartered to meet
directly with Phantom.
The region offers a rugged coastline with
endless beaches unfortunately not suitable
for swimming, or diving due to the natural
inhabitants - crocodiles . The area is rich
with marine life from dugongs, sharks,
mantarays, crocodiles, turtles and all kinds
of fish.
The main attraction to the area on Phantom
is the Barramundi fishing and mud crabbing.
Estuary fishing is done from our fishing
tender " Blue Devil " where guests can spend
hours or the whole day exploring and fishing
the waterways. Returning to Phantom as the
mothership for the evening, for hot showers,
cold beers and a fantastic meal cooked by
our onboard Chef.
SURROUNDING AREAS:
Osprey Reef: Situated 70nm out in the
Coral Sea from Lizard Island is the
spectacular Osprey Reef . Spanning approx.
14nm long it has a lagoon area offering
protected anchorage. Here everything is
bigger and in larger numbers, from nautilus
shells, hammer head sharks, manta rays, you
name it Osprey has it all. .Phantom has done
charters for BBC documentaries on the
evolution of sharks to this reef. It is a
scuba divers paradise for research,
photography and sheer enjoyment. No other
dive site in the world can compare to the
thrill and enjoyment of Osprey. Great for
the Adrenaline Junkie. |
